Waiheke Island not in the harbour

[edit]

It contains Waiheke Island, but not Rangitoto.? Rubbish. Both of these islands are in the Hauraki Gulf, and neither are in the Waitemata. GrutnessGrutness talk 01:09, 26 Nov 2004 (UTC)

What size ships?

[edit]

Can it take Panamax ships fully laden?

Does it belong here: List of deep water ports?

Tabletop 02:38, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

According to this (page 5), the Waitemata port is one of five Panamax-capable ports in New Zealand, the others being Taranaki, Lyttelton, Tauranga and Otago. Both Tauranga and Auckland have some post-Panamax facilities.[1] -- Avenue 13:57, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

The first image in panoramas is not displaying properly... is this a MediaWiki bug? Joe SchmedleyTalk 22:32, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps. The problem was that the markup for an earlier image was missing the final "]]" (which I've fixed), but I don't see why this should affect the display of the next image. -- Avenue (talk) 00:48, 8 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Auckland has two harbours

[edit]

From: http://www.teara.govt.nz/en which is the official encyclopedia for New Zealand.

Search for 'auckland harbour' and get the following as part of a description of the Auckland Region.

"Auckland city is on a narrow strip between two harbours: the Waitematā and the wide, shallow Manukau. "

Only one macron?

[edit]

I can understand, and endorse, the placing of the macron over the final "a" in Waitemata, but shouldn't there also be one over the "a" in "ma"? The two syllables are (or should be) pronounced exactly the same. Akld guy (talk) 20:57, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No response, so done. Akld guy (talk) 04:55, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Official documents only have the last macron e.g. Auckland Council Waitematā Local Board http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/AboutCouncil/representativesbodies/LocalBoards/Waitematalocalboard/Pages/default.aspx
